Why did you choose Ellis & Co?

I decided to move to Ellis and Co because our former accountants were a large national firm and we felt like a small fish in a large pool. No one was willing to help with those practical problems a small business has other than historical year end accounting that gave us information too late.

I met Robert Ellis and quickly realised that as a sole practitioner he shared many of the same challenges that we faced such as cash flow, obtaining the right type of clients at the right margins, and recruitment of bookkeeping staff with financial accounting software knowledge.

Robert streamlined the existing reporting systems by introducing Sage job costing and monthly management reporting.

This has meant that the company now knows what profit or loss it makes each month on each contract resulting in action being taken before it is too late.

The Company is now able to produce job costing and sage reporting in-house which has led to substantial savings in administration costs and a more profitable business as we are now able to recognise and concentrate on higher margin projects.

Robert also enabled the company to gain a significant grant for machinery through his close links with the local enterprise council (cewtec) and leading corporate banks.

Robert's professionalism is reflected in all his team who are extremely approachable and efficient.

Ellis and Co have played a significant part in growing Silver Lining to be one of the country's leading specialist furniture makers, so much so that the company and Robert are now putting together a plan to expand the business again on the basis of a three year order book.
