HMRC have established a new unit to deal with the tax affairs of deceased people.
This unit will provide a single point of contact to finalise the estates of PAYE and self assessment taxpayers who have died and is intended to improve and streamline the processes provided when settling the estate of the deceased person.
A new form R27 (Reclaiming Tax or Paying Tax When Someone Dies) has been designed to help personal representatives in their contacts with HMRC.
If you have recently suffered a bereavement please contact either Robert Ellis or Peter Way-Rider at Ellis & Co to see how we can help.
The HMRC unit has been set up in Cardiff: HM Revenue & Customs, Pay As Your Earn & Self Assessment, PO Box 4000, Cardiff CF14 8HR.
If you would like to contact the Unit, telephone the normal HMRC helpline - 0845 300 0627 then select option 2 and then option 4 to speak to an advisor on the bereavement helpline.
These changes have not affected the Probate and Inheritance Tax procedures.
