Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers in Northgate Street, Chester, is the proud new sponsor of the region's High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise.

Organised by the University of Chester, the awards were introduced in 2006 by the then High Sheriff of Cheshire, David Briggs MBE, to recognise outstanding achievement by enterprises in Cheshire, Halton and Warrington. The scheme is now endorsed by each High Sheriff in office.

The awards offer entrepreneurs thousands of pounds worth of prizes and all finalists are visited in the workplace by a judging panel as part of the process.

This year's ceremony took place in March, with electrical engineering company B&S group Ltd crowned the winners of the High Sheriff's Award for Enterprise.

After securing first place, the company was invited to put one of its employees forward for a place on the University of Chester Business School MBA course worth £10,000.

Principal Accountant Robert Ellis of Ellis & Co chose to support the awards to reinforce the company's support of SMEs and local entrepreneurs.

He joins a host of other sponsors making valuable contributions to the annual event including the Bank of America, Cheshire & Warrington LEP, Marketing Cheshire, Oliver Valves, Trinity Mirror Cheshire, UK Trade & Investment, Cheshire Business Leaders, Mornflake, Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council,  Click Consult, DTM Legal, Roberts Bakery, Warrington Borough Council and the University of Chester.

"We are thrilled to be the new sponsors of the High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise as we already place a great deal of emphasis on helping clients develop their business and come up with a strategic plan for growth," said Robert.

"It is only right that organisations that have achieved outstanding commercial success and sustainable growth are honoured and rewarded in this way."

The awards are open to businesses with an annual turnover of at least £500,000 that employ between five and 250 members of staff.

Entrants are expected to demonstrate outstanding performance and explain their strategy to ensure that the company will continue to expand and flourish in the future.

The next awards ceremony is due to take place on 27th March 2014 at Chester Town Hall.
