Our annual charity golf day got off to a flying start, with our team ‘putting’ the emphasis on networking with local businesses.

We teed off the event at Sutton Hall Golf Club in Sutton Weaver and attracted 30 companies from across the North West who each competed in teams of four.

Tom Way-Rider, a professional golfer and the son of Peter Way-Rider, Ellis & Co’s Tax Manager, attended the event.

WINNER TAKES ALL: Scooping first prize at the Ellis & Co charity golf day are (from Left to right) Chris Jones, Professor of Business and Development at Glyndwr University, Mike Forster, the owner of CA Design and Print, Gary Beagan , the Manager of online recruitment.co.uk and Adam Butler of Adam Butler Recruitment Ltd.

The overall winners, who each walked away with a bottle of champagne, included Mike Forster, the owner of CA Design and Print Ltd, Chris Jones, Professor of Business and Management at Glyndwr University, Adam Butler of Adam Butler Recruitment Ltd and Gary Beagan, the manager of online recrtuitment.co.uk

The prize for the longest drive went to Senior Relationship Manager Chris Dhenin of Natwest. The award for nearest the pin went to Bob Hyatt, Director of Hyatt Consulting Ltd.

Ellis & Co hosted a charity raffle at the end of the tournament with all proceeds earmarked for not for profit organisation My Name is Not Cancer (MNINC) in support of cancer patients.

Proceeds from the draw are still being counted with Ellis & Co pledging to make a donation and Barclays Bank offering to match fund the total raised.

The donation will go towards MNINC’s ongoing campaign to print the ‘MNINC Publication’, a leaflet designed to encourage young people not to lose their sense of self to the disease.

Thousands more ‘MNINC Publications’ will be printed following the golf day and distributed to hospitals across the North West.

The ‘MNINC Publication’ was written and inspired by Megan Fletcher who was 20 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while studying human biosciences at Plymouth University. Megan’s mum Fiona, of Bersham in Wrexham, has continued to spread her daughter’s message as the CEO of MNINC.

Robert Ellis, our Principal Accountant, said: “We were delighted by the huge response we got this year to our charity golf day which offers a fantastic platform for businesses to network with each other and gain new contacts.

“We are constantly seeking new opportunities to support our clients and local businesses and we're pleased to be able to contribute to the amazing achievements of MNINC in supporting cancer patients at the same time.”

Fiona added: “The financial support Ellis & Co has provided us with on its annual golf day has given us a tremendous boost in terms of raising awareness about our organisation and helping us to publish thousands more copies of our inspirational Publication which we are extremely grateful for.”
