John Farrell, Accounts Senior has been nominated for a Dee 106.3 local hero award. John’s participation, outstanding commitment and hard work in working with the University of Chester over recent months has ensured Ellis & Co has been nominated for the Local Business of the Year Award sponsored by Cheshire West and Chester council at the Dee 106.3 local heroes awards.

The award recognises businesses who have made a significant impact in the community or who have exceeded expectations in certain areas.

John has supported young students and up and coming business entrepreneurs taking part in various programmes run by the University such as Mission Moscow, Collaborate and Accelerate.

With regard to his nomination John said:-

“I am really pleased to be nominated for this award. I have enjoyed working with the University with various projects over recent months and am proud to be attending the Awards Dinner on behalf of Ellis & Co.”

“The recent programme, Accelerate was held at the Riverside Innovation Centre (RIC) and began in December 2013. It offered students and graduates the opportunity to attend three intensive events over the course of the academic year, designed to equip them with the necessary tools to start their business. Part-funded and supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Riverside Innovation Centre is the University of Chester’s innovation-focused business start-up support facility.

An eclectic mix of business owners, mentors, business and industry experts have convened at RIC to help support those at the start of their journey. (Source “ University of Chester”)

Of his recent involvement in the Accelerate Programme John said:-

“I was very pleased to be asked to be on the judging panel for the final event of Accelerate as I have worked closely with the students throughout the whole process. It was fantastic to hear the pitches from the participants which were all of a very high quality and it was obvious how much work had gone in to them. I congratulate the entrepreneurs again for all their hard work and look forward to hearing how the various businesses are progressing.”
