Natalie Tomlinson, PR & Marketing manager at Ellis & Co took part in the Chester Half Marathon last Sunday (May 21).
“I’m not much of a runner, so signing up to a half marathon definitely raised some eyebrows amongst my friends and family,” said Natalie.
“I faced a few hurdles in training and only ran eight miles a month or so before the run.
“I had never ran more than four miles before so it was a bit of a shock.”
Natalie took on the challenge to raise much needed funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
The charity provides support to 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK.
“This charity is very close to my heart,” said Natalie.
“My best friends four year-old son, Jenson, was diagnosed with the condition last year.
“He was diagnosed with Duchenne, the worst possible strain of Muscular Dystrophy, and is already starting to feel its affects.
“At present there is no cure, so the charity desperately needs funds to carry out its research.”
Natalie joined a team of 24 other runners on the day and together ‘Team Jenson’ raised thousands of pounds for the charity.
“The atmosphere on the day was incredible, the event was very well organised and I think I may have caught the running bug!”
So what next for Team Jenson?
“Jenson’s parents are always looking out for the next challenge, it’s a great way of not only raising funds but also raising awareness,” added Natalie.
“They have their sights set on another half marathon in September, hopefully my legs may have stopped aching by then so I can take part too!”
