Ellis and Co’s very own Donna Bennett has been taking the world of bowls by storm.
Donna, who has worked at Ellis & Co for the past 19 years, was awarded four prizes during Market Drayton League’s annual presentation dinner held earlier this month.
Donna, a Malpas Sports bowler, was crowned the best lady bowler in Division one; Ladies Merit winner, and picked up the mixed doubles and triples trophies.
“I’ve been playing bowls for approximately 12 years,” said Donna, who is also secretary of the North Shropshire Ladies Association.
“I went to watch family members play, the team were short of a player so I was asked to get involved and since then I’ve never missed a game.”
Although a competitive game, Donna says the people she meets and plays against are great fun and whilst wanting to win are still graceful in defeat.
“I have made close friendships over the years through playing bowls; there are so many players involved ranging from six years-old to 70, its lovely to see those different age groups competing against each other,” said Donna.
With the main season now over, the team will turn to the District Winter League to try and ‘keep in the swing of things’.
“The main aim for me next season is to take part at the Waterloo Champion of Champions in Blackpool again,” said Donna.
“Having qualified for this competition a couple of times but unfortunately not making it out of the first round and then losing this season in the final of the qualifier, I am keen to qualify this year and better my previous attempts,” she added.
Robert Ellis, Director at Ellis & Co said: “These awards show that Donna is not only a great asset for us here at Ellis & Co, but also to her club and teammates.
“Well done Donna.”
