An award winning company is celebrating its sixth year in business by taking on 40 new employees.
The team of ‘free thinkers, innovators and problem solvers’ at Intilery.com Ltd are bucking the trend, not only by expanding its team but by reporting 100% profits every year since the company began.
Gareth James is the founder and CEO of Intilery, a customer engagement platform that combines a powerful customer data platform (CDP) and enterprise campaign management tool.
“We supply customer engagements technology and services to help our clients to build a relationship with their customers by understanding their behaviour online, for example what pages they are visiting whilst on their website, what time of the day they are visiting, or what products they are buying,” said Gareth, who founded Intilery in 2012.
“The idea came about from my experience of working at MoneySupermarket.com and The Hut Group.
“I noticed a gap in the market and created the company to address that gap.”
Intilery engage using every channel, including email, push notifications, social media, website and SMS.
“Customers generate a lot of data as they interact with a brand across multi-channels,” said Gareth.
“Making sense of this data is challenging at the best of times, but coming up with meaningful segments that drive personalised experiences is where most brands fail in delivering the optimal experience.
“We provide bespoke data analysis services to help our clients make sense of their data and drive value from their technology investment.”
The team currently consists of 35 employees, split between two offices, one based in Chester and the other in London.
“I’ve got a great team here,” said Gareth.
“There are times when I have to delegate tasks, but I have so much faith in my employees, I know the company is in safe hands.
“It sounds cliché, but the most satisfying part of my job is watching the team succeed, I like empowering people to do their job.”
One member of the team who has been with Gareth since the beginning is CTO Tom McMillen.
“Tom and I have worked together for over 15 years, we worked together at Moneysupermarket and The Hut Group.
“I spend the majority of my time with Tom, the executive team and other departments providing leadership.
“Although 30% of my time is spent on technical work such as coding, I enjoy keeping a hand in.”
Intilery boasts an impressive client list including SkyBet, Sykes Cottages and Travel Supermarket, but Gareth admits that competing against larger companies in his industry can be challenging.
“There have been many challenging times, but it is starting to get easier,” said Gareth.
“It’s always a challenge competing with larger companies.
“Well established companies, like the ones we work with, tend to trust larger companies more than smaller companies.
“Even though our technology and our service is much better that those larger companies - we have to work 10 times harder than them to prove it.
“We work hard to gain a client’s trust, trust is very important to us.”
Trust is also an important factor in the relationship between Intilery and Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.
“I would highly recommend the team at Ellis & Co,” said Gareth.
“We’ve been a client of Ellis & Co for the past three years.
“When we first started out we used a smaller, two man partnership accountancy firm.
“As the company grew we needed the help and support of a well-established accountant and one that could help us with more complex issues such as Research and Development claims.
“Our previous accountant recommended Ellis & Co, it’s been a successful partnership ever since,” he added.
