For the past, almost, seven years a team of electricians have been working hard to keep homes and businesses in the North West of England and North Wales with power.

Chester based H & P Electrical Contractors Ltd will be celebrating its seventh anniversary this November, a milestone directors and co-owners Craig Phillips and Jamie Hughes are very proud to claim.

Established in 2011, the electrical contractors providing a first class service to commercial, industrial and domestic customers.

“We have grown from myself and Jamie to now having a team of nine, which is made up of friendly and reliable electricians and eager to learn apprentices,” said Craig.

From 8am Monday to Friday the team attend numerous locations across the county and North Wales covering a range of jobs.

Every day is different for the team, so the words a ‘typical day’ can never be uttered, tasks include rewires or new builds, extensions and electrical work in kitchens and bathrooms; to testing and certification for landlords or sellers, plus 24 hour call out services.

“For commercial work we’re often providing service’s such as re-wiring, fault finding and emergency lighting,” said Craig, whose customers include schools, hospitals and offices.

“Then domestic jobs may mean assisting in an extension to adding more sockets, putting in TV points, installing electric showers; as I say, each day is different and it’s one of the reason’s we love our job.”

Craig, Jamie and the team take great pride in the company’s ethos - that the customer always comes first.

“Customer satisfaction is our number one priority,” said Craig.

“We take a lot of pride in the standard of our work and we love working with each customer to achieve their goals.

“We get some lovely comments from our customers about the quality of work and exceeding expectations which is always fantastic to hear,” he added.

Craig and Jamie also have great pride in their growing team and the standard of work that they do, and they have both put a lot of time into teaching the next generation of electricians.

“We enjoy helping teach the next generation of electricians, which we have done for the past four years,” said Craig.

H & P Electrical Contractors work with Coleg Cambria offering an apprentice electrician scheme, which involves one day of study at the Deeside campus and four days working and learning ‘on the job’.

“We get a lot of support from the college and they keep in touch with updates from the course, which takes an apprentice four years to complete,” said Craig.

Despite business going well, there have been, as with all companies, a few testing times along the way.

“We face many challenges as electricians,” said Craig.

“Possibly the biggest one is we often work on jobs with other trades who perhaps don’t have the same level of understanding as our team to (on electrical issues), so making those people aware of any potential dangers on a job and how we like to work can sometimes prove a little challenging!”

The year ahead looks like a busy one with growth plans in place, taking on more members of the team; all whilst continuing to ‘improve on the last year’ whilst keeping the high standards their customers know and expect.

Since April 2018 Craig and Jamie have entrusted their accounts and payroll with Chester and Wrexham based accountants Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.

“We recently came on board with Ellis & Co and have really enjoyed the care and attention they have taken when setting up our account and the time spent getting everything up to the level required by ourselves,” said Craig.

“We certainly would not hesitate in recommending them to other organisations and I can honestly say it has been a pleasure to work with them.”
