For VAT registered businesses with turnover above the VAT registration threshold (currently £85,000), VAT returns relating to VAT periods starting on or after April 1, 2019 will need to be submitted in accordance with Making Tax Digital rules.

This means that VAT returns will need to be submitted through your accounting software rather than by entering figures into the HMRC online webpage.

Sage 50 will be compliant with Making Tax Digital, but only the current up to date version – Version 24 (2018).

If you are using any older versions than Version 24 (2018) you will not be able to file VAT returns under the new rules.
