Rules on carrying over annual leave are to be relaxed to support key industries during Coronavirus.
The measures introduced by Business Secretary Alok Sharma allow those who have not taken all of their statutory annual leave entitlement due to COVID-19 will be able to carry it over into the next two leave years.
The new regulations will allow up to four weeks of unused leave to be carried over.
The changes have been brought in so employees won’t lose out on annual leave entitlement, and businesses aren’t left short-staffed during the outbreak.
“Workers are entitled to 28 days, including bank holidays, each year,” said Lisa McLeod, payroll manager at Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.
“Most of this entitlement cannot be carried over to the next year so any workers who don’t use their days off will lose them.
“This new measure should ease some pressure on both employers and their staff, especially those working in key industries.”
