A Chester women’s networking group hasn’t let the current pandemic ‘stop chat’ by taking its event online.

The West Cheshire Women’s Network held its first virtual networking event on Thursday (June 16).

Founded in 2013, the women’s network provides an opportunity for businesswomen to come together and is co-hosted by Natwest PLC, Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, West Cheshire & North Wales Chamber of Commerce and Cheshire West and Chester Council.

“For the first time in our history we took our event online in the form of a live Zoom session,” said Sarah Bailey, director of Business Banking at NatWest.

“We know how important our events are to our attendees so we wanted to hold an online session to let them know that we are still here and that support is available should anyone need it.”

The group usually meets four times a year, events consist of a round the table networking session, followed by a talk from an inspirational guest speaker, but due to the Coronavirus organisers had to postpone its March event.

“We didn’t want to cancel our June event, so we decided to take the event online,” said Natalie Tomlinson, PR and marketing manager at Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers.

“It was a really good session, with plenty of chatter and laughs, it was very interesting to hear how our attendees had been managing with the lockdown.”

Plans are now in motion for the networking group’s September event.

“We will be keeping an eye on government guidelines as to whether we can hold the event online or at our venue, which this year is the Cheshire View in Christelton,” said Jennifer Kennedy, membership director at the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce.

“But now that we have held our first online session, and we know it works, our event on September 24 will be going ahead.”
