A Chester accountancy practice has pledged its support to a local hospice for the second year running.

Ellis & Co Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers has chosen to support the Hospice of the Good Shepherd for a second year after the pandemic scuppered plans to raise funds in 2020.

The Hospice, based in Backford, provides support to patients and their families living with a life limiting illness.

The Hospice provides specialist palliative care in a 10 bedded in patient ward, as well as complementary therapies in a new living well centre and bereavement counselling for adults and children.

Less than a third of the annual running costs of £4 million come from government funding, the remainder is generated through fundraising, donations, events and corporate partnerships.

The firm of accountants, which has offices in Northgate Street and in Wrexham, had planned to support another charity for 2021, but wanted to raise the funds they had promised to the Hospice.

“We had planned to raise funds by holding numerous events over 2020, unfortunately that couldn’t happen because of the pandemic,” said Natalie Tomlinson, PR & marketing manager at Ellis & Co.

“Therefore we only thought it fair that we should try again this year, we’re hopeful that we can raise much needed funds for the Hospice which provides a much needed service in our area.”

Caroline Siddall, Director of Income Generation at the Hospice said: “We are delighted to be working with Ellis and Co again this year, and we are all hoping that we can really make the most of the opportunities later in the year to work together as a team to support the Hospice.

“It was so disappointing that all of the plans the team at Ellis and Co had in place for last year we affected by the pandemic.

“However we were really grateful for the support they gave us with our Living Well Patient goody bags.

“These goody bags were such a morale boost for our patients who were shielding at home.

“We are looking forward to a successful partnership for the coming year.”
